Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) is a multifunctional cable used in overhead power transmission lines, simultaneously combining grounding and optical communication functions. Internally, it contains single or multiple optical fibers protected by loose tubes, surrounded by outer layers composed of braided steel and aluminum strands. This combination provides high mechanical resistance to tensile loads, adverse weather conditions, and lightning strikes, while ensuring optimal electrical conductivity.
